Canning in the Congo
12th May 2011
Here is a bit of news from Si Canning, who recently flew out to the Congo to work with 'Wings of Hope':
"I spent 5 weeks in the USA getting used to the Cessna 206 and learning plane mechanics, including hot wiring and hand starting in case I lose the key! After a few days back in the UK I flew to Kinshasa where I was met by Father Floribert, a catholic priest who is my helper and is responsible for getting my Congolese licence sorted. At the British embassy I was told to get a local phone no. incase it kicks off during the elections and they have to evacuate all British citizens.
I was pleased to see my "hotel" was equipped with a mosquito net set up over my bed so I happily went to sleep assured of a malaria free night, only to wake up to find a mosquito inside the net just above my head with a smug grin on it's face. Brilliant. Now I am just waiting for documents to be in order so I can go to my plane and head off into the jungle to do some work.
It has been a great a great opportunity to get closer to the Lord over the last 2 months. The enemy has been at work, becoming tangible at one particularly hair raising point. Needless to say Jesus has my back, and always will."
